Bio

She is interested in how we see things, what we think and experience and explores these questions through her work.  She collects images and materials, mostly from construction sites.  This “stuff” is then investigated, manipulated, and arranged into systems and patterns. Without any preconceived agenda, she  reacts spontaneously, considering anything as a possibility, even the material on its own.

Poindexter is not interested in a narrative or symbolism, rather she draws from the rich history of Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, Dadaism, and Fauvism to inform her work.

Ethel Poindexter has been represented in solo and group shows throughout the Eastern United States, including OK Harris Gallery in New York, Stephen Glassman Gallery in Maryland, and Hunter Museum in Tennessee.  She received a BFA in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design, and a BFA in Sculpture from The University of Miami.
